AMP4.2 – 10 Bullets – Ten Ways to Connect with Yourself and Others

With Pat McCormickZach Englehart

SPECIAL GUEST: Ayla Chase

In this edition of the TEN LIST, Ayla tells us ten ways we can both connect with ourselves and the world. Ayla is an Army Officer, ultra-athlete, rock climber, ice climber, triathlete, crossfitter, EMT – the list goes on and on!

CONNECTING WITH YOURSELF

UNDERSTAND, RESPECT, AND APPRECIATE YOURSELF

  • The probability of your existence is close to nil.
  • The fact that you exist is a miracle.
  • Leaning into controlled suffering.
  • Get outside of your comfort zone.
  • Pain + perseverance = strength
  • Keep track of all the things you have achieved and remind yourself what you are capable of when things get hard?

FAIL

  • If you have never failed then you have never tried.
  • Push yourself beyond your known limits.
  • Failure, like success, is self-defined.
  • Fail forward.

BE CURIOUS

  • Don’t worry about being good at something before you try – go out and do it! Proficiency comes later.
  • Take every opportunity to learn about life.
  • Think Like DaVinci

CONNECTING WITH OTHERS:

EVERYONE HAS A STORY

  • You never know what other people are going through.
  • Approach every conflict with questions.
  • Everyone’s perception is their individual reality.
  • Everyone is fighting a battle that you know nothing about.

SONDER

  • You are a part of a much larger story.
  • Your actions create ripples in other people’s lives.
  • We are all interconnected.

BE SCARED

  • Feel the fear and do it anyway.

VOLUNTEER

  • The best way to learn about yourself is to give to others.
  • Seeing how other people live, puts your existence into perspective.

GO OUTSIDE

  • Get off the screens.
  • Go outside.
  • Mental and physical benefits.

SIMPLE ACTS OF KINDNESS

  • Whether big or small, simple acts of kindness are a direct route to happiness and have a butterfly effect throughout the world.
  • Don’t stop at strangers.
  • Social media has given us a “connection illusion” – clicking “like” has taken the place of engagement with people who need to feel important.

SMILE

  • Smiling improves the lives of people around you.
  • Smiling has proven to release dopamine in your brain. Using the muscle in your face can actually make you happy.
